Name: Door: Door Pass (dominant) Canon: Heaven Will Be Mine Canon Point: Day 9 of Celestial Mechanics route, before the final mission Age: early 20s Appearance: link History: The wiki is largely empty and lacks a centralized timeline of events. Heaven Will Be Mine (HWBM) takes place in an alternate universe where humans are capable of space travel by at least the 1960s. Under attack by a mysterious alien force called the Existential Threat (ET), humanity finally decided to take the fight to them. Humans colonized the galaxy, creating the Gravity Well and Tidal Resonators to transmit the gravity/culture/authority of Earth to survive in space and make other planets hospitable. They also made the ship-selves, giant mecha made of metal and plastic to fight the ETs. Such a space program needed volunteers. In addition to the scientists, engineers, and other staff that colonization efforts required, the people who decided to leave their home and pilot the ship-selves tended to be children and teens who wanted to escape the crushing weight of Earth's authority. These were considered the first generation pilots. Saturn is a third generation pilot, bioengineered to achieve the dream of being "more human than human." Grown in a lab, these girls are considered "special," possessing psychic powers and fitted with implants to make them stronger. One of these third gen pilots, Pluto, was so monstrously strong that when she finally hopped in the cockpit of her ship-self, she singlehandedly and almost instantly ended the Existential Threat. As it turns out, the ETs weren't much of a danger at all, just a shadow of human culture over the universe. The only true alien was themselves. The heads of the space program got their pilots together to reach through the Gravity Well with their powers to confirm that to see if the ETs were truly gone. The answer was yes, but no one expected what happened next: Neith, an unremarkable pilot, reached further than anyone else and "everted," becoming something different. Described as turning inside out, they became something truly alien and disappeared. With the ETs confirmed gone, Earth reasoned that there wasn't much point to the space program. They didn't care about their idealistic hope of making space a suitable home for humans. They wanted everyone to come home, by force if need be. To them, the people living in space were less than human. The space program was shut down after that. Saturn was demoted and benched from piloting without ever once getting to fly. All her hard work, all her good behavior, all the testing and experiments, none of it meant anything. She was thrown away like trash by both her superiors and Earth. With the dream of space dead, people divided into three factions to argue over what to do next. Memorial Foundation believed the only thing to do was to pack up and rejoin Earth -- trying to resist their authority would get them all killed. Cradle's Graces wanted nothing more than to continue living in space, and would go so far as to try to destabilize Earth's gravity to force humanity to leave the planet. Celestial Mechanics, the faction to which Saturn belongs, was intrigued by what happened to Neith. They sought to embrace the classification of humans as aliens in space and make that literal, and they built an "existentially horrifying" prototype ship-self called the String of Pearls to help make that a reality. An uneasy truce existed between these three factions until Saturn, in retaliation for being benched, anonymously leaked the existence of the String of Pearls to everyone who mattered, then used the ensuing fracas to steal the ship-self. This started the conflict at the heart of the game. Promising to continue flying for Celestial Mechanics because of her belief in what they are trying to achieve, she began to fly missions for them, sabotaging Memorial Foundation, alternatingly helping and avoiding Cradle's Graces, and flirting with their ace pilots the entire time. Personality: - Spiteful Saturn is an unholy brat powered by spite. She was once a "good girl." She worked hard, obeyed orders, and did everything she was supposed to, and it didn't get her anywhere. Better to be bad and be able to actually enjoy herself. "Do not engage the Cradle's Graces pilot because she's scary powerful"? Better go make out with her! "Be careful around the Memorial Foundation's ace sniper and war veteran"? Oh, she's gotta go get shot up now. Tell her to do something, and she's almost guaranteed to do the exact opposite just out of principle. Fuck her commander, fuck Earth, fuck authority, and fuck anyone who would try to chain her down. - Impulsive She's the kind of girl who calculates, plots, and plans. She's also the kind of girl who will blow off mission briefing and set out to do her on thing -- and then suddenly decides to follow missions parameters, not out of a suddenly surge of loyalty to her faction, but because she heard that a really hot enemy pilot would be in the area. She doesn't even read the manual to most things and would rather just sort of wing it. Mercury, her best friend, is constantly vexed by the way she deliberately ignores official rules and regulations, only listening when it suits her whims. Why deny herself when it didn't do anything for her before? She's spent enough time not getting what she wants. - Self-destructive Saturn likes to get Fucked Up. She get way too excited over the idea of getting crushed under Pluto's ship-self/the weight of her tidal forces. Getting shot up by Luna-Terra is something exciting, an overload of information in her brain. She wants "a list of girls who will shoot [her] from orbit," and she claims she's never careful. More seriously, she was preyed on by Iapetus, her commander, when she was younger, and the fallout of his attention, grooming, and betrayal of her has made her self-destructive and kicked her self-esteem. Mercury, her closest friend, even makes a comment about how she doesn't love herself. + Ambitious Saturn calls herself greedy, taking what she wants and more. But what she wants and what is more is something that will free the space pilots from the choking hold of Earth's authority forever. She singlehandedly orchestrates a distraction to steal the String of Pearls and install herself as the Celestial Mechanic's pilot. She flies their missions, not just to spit in Iapetus's face while becoming an alien, but share the gift of eversion to anyone who would want to become something truly more than human. She'll never be content with what she has, because what she has sucks! Better to reach out and take a different, better future for herself, and share it with others. Powers and Abilities: + Hacking - Saturn, for all her Dumb Bitch energy, is legitimately smart and very tech savvy. Saturn stole plans and leaked the existence of the String of Pearls, and successfully hijacked said ship-self despite it being set up to accept a completely different pilot. She's constantly having to hack her own ship-self and console to get her missions, and on one occasion even creates mission parameters for herself. She regularly intercepts emails to the point where her friend Mercury puts SATURN DO NOT READ in the subject line of his messages to others. Basically, she is a huge nosy busybody who will use whatever means she can to get her way. + Psychic - As a lab grown test tube baby, Saturn is "special," but the ways in which this manifests seem to be more narrative than physical. In her own words: "You can't perceive spacetime as a story? A narration spun out of the ambient gravity of humans? Telling you everything that is, if you listen?" She feels impressions left in space, like the signature of a person. For instance, Luna-Terra feels like "an eye roll, but... kind of like a giggle, too." Encounters with Pluto, a similarly special girl, quickly become a strangely meta narration as both girls feel each other out. It's not mind-reading, but when thinking about their pasts, the other becomes aware of it, too. Inventory: nothing but the clothes on her back Samples: TDM thread with Venus Text Sample: !!!! breaking news !!!! local mutant girl needs hot lady to crush her listen i dont care about this arbitrary dom and in charge deal i wanna get missile salvoed in the face not be the one doing the salvoing yknow? we can work something out interested in money? boom a contract? boom nudes? just take them ive got a million you want it i got it lmk if ur interested ;) ;) ;) |
